Kuta roads to close for pedestrian-only parties on New Year’s Eve

Kuta will be a restricted area for vehicles during the New Year’s Eve celebrations, in anticipation of
possible traffic congestion due to the flood of tourists and locals attending festivities at the famous tourist spot.

The Bali Police have said they will close some roads and reroute traffic, since Kuta is such a favorite area for New Year’s Eve.

Much the same as last year, the roads heading to Kuta beach and Jl. Legian will be closed to vehicles. People planning to go to the area should park their vehicles at Central Park on Jl. Imam Bonjol or on any number of surrounding roads.

“From the parking areas, they should walk to the beach or to Jl. Legian,” police spokesman Sr. Comr. Hariadi said on Friday.

The closure will commence as of 4 p.m. on Monday (Dec. 31). Officers will start to clear areas along Jl. Legian, Jl. Pantai Kuta and Jl. Melasti from street-side parked vehicles from 2 p.m.

“We have to clear the area from street-side parking to make it convenient for pedestrians and to avoid drivers having caught in traffic congestion when we close the road,” Hariadi said.

Those wanting to go to Kuta via Jl. Patih Jelantik heading to Jl. Legian, will be rerouted to Central Park. Traffic from Jl. Seminyak heading to Jl. Legian will also be closed and will be rerouted to Jl. Sriwijaya to Jl. Patik Jelantik, heading to Denpasar.

Vehicles coming from Jl. Dewi Sartika or Jl. Kartika Plaza heading to Kuta beach will be rerouted to Jl. Singosari and Jl. Ciungwanara toward Jl. Bunisari, then passing through the Temacun intersection to Jl. Raya Kuta, heading to Denpasar.

The route from Jl. Raya Tuban heading to Jl. Singosari will be closed with traffic rerouted to Temacun intersection to Jl. Raya Kuta.

Vehicles coming from Dewa Ruci intersection heading to Jl. Setia Budi to Temacun intersection will have to go through Jl. Sunset Road and Jl. Imam Bonjol.

“All routes heading to Kuta will be totally closed but vehicles that have been inside Kuta are allowed to park in surrounding areas,” Hariadi said.

To safeguard the night, police will station 212 personnel at 73 spots.

Revelers usually come in groups with their families, friends and loved ones to enjoy the variety of entertainment on offer in clubs, restaurants or in the sky above Kuta Beach.
