Thousands turn out for spectacular Indonesian royal wedding - Telegraph
Huge throngs of people fill the streets of Indonesia's cultural centre Yogyakarta to greet the new royal couple of Java

Royal bride Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hayu, 29, married Kanjeng Pangeran Haryo Notonegoro, 39, in an elaborate wedding ceremony in the old city of Yogyakarta in Indonesia on Tuesday.

The bride and groom, clad in ornate costumes, took part in a centuries-old ceremony that fuses Islamic tradition with Hindu-influenced Javanese culture.

Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was among the 1,500 dignitaries invited to occasion.

The couple, who attended the same school ten years apart, met at a school reunion and became romantically involved when they were in the US.

Previous Sultans practised polygamy, but the newly weds will follow the monogamy model embraced by the bride's father, Hamengkubuwono X.
