"MEGIBUNG" A TRADITION IN BALI

Besides having a beautiful tourist spot, Bali is also rich in culture and unique traditions, one of which megibung , is one of the ancestral tradition , which is a tradition of eating together in one container. Besides could eat until satisfied without feeling shy, megibung full value of togetherness, she can exchange ideas, joking, and even got to know one or more of the friendship fellow citizens. Eating together or megibung this, in every single container consists of 5-8 people, it is a form of togetherness there is no difference between men and women are also differences in caste or color, blend all sit and eat together, but the subsequent development between men and women are separated, but otherwise this is still in the family or neighbors, they choose bergabung.Tradisi is still firmly entrenched in Karangasem area.

This megibung tradition introduced by King of Karangasem , I Gusti Agung is Anglurah Ketut Karangasem Çaka around 1614 or 1692 AD . As at that time, Karangasem in his expedition to conquer the Kings are in the land of Lombok. When the rest of the war, the king urged all soldiers to eat together in a circular position later known as Megibung . In fact, the king himself is said to eat with the soldiers.
Megibung starts from cooking traditional Balinese dishes together, be it rice and side dishes. When finished cooking, the citizens then prepare the food to be eaten. White rice is placed in a container called gibungan , while the side dishes and vegetables that will be eaten is called a bouquet . Megibung tradition is held when there is Religious ceremonies and in some places , especially in Karangasem area , for example in yadnya ceremonies such as weddings, temple ceremony in the temple , cremation , quarterly ceremonies , and other celebration . In this activity normally have an event that gave an invitation to relatives and relatives to witness the procession of the religious ceremony. So the procession ceremony can take place as expected.
There are some ethics that need to be considered when megibung event , before eating we had to wash their hands first , not dropping crumbs / leftovers of a mouthful , do not take our next meal , if one had been satisfied and satiated barred from leaving her , although this rule is not written but still followed participants ate megibung .
