Best Yoga in Bali

Posted by Administrator on 3rd May, 2013

Aside from its natural beauty, Bali is also renowned for its healthy lifestyle — if you are not too caught up in the whirlwind of good food and non-stop partying that is, and places that offer yoga classes are aplenty on this island of the gods.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned yoga enthusiast, here are some of the best places in Bali to take classes.

Jiwa Bikram yoga

The studio is located in Seminyak's tourist-heavy street, Petitenget. It is currently holding Bikram Yoga classes; 90 minutes of workout sequences doing 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises.

Bikram practice is also known as “hot yoga”, because it is done in a heated room. The warm temperature and the workout are said to take your body into its maximum fitness level.

Intuitive Flow

The recommended class in Intuitive Flow is their Yoga Pranala — a combination of asana yoga, pranayama yoga, meditation and mudra pranala (Balinese qi gong).

They also offer a teacher-training program for 200 hours of yoga, as well as a healing program with specific exercises designed to improve the hip joints, to recover from herniated disc or for arthritis.

Yoga Barn

The Yoga Barn is one of Bali's famous yoga getaway places, partly because of their regular festival, but it is actually the variety of their daily classes and their stunning location in Ubud that does most of the profile building.

You can find classes for all levels of yoga, from beginner to advanced, at Yoga Barn.

Olop Arpipi

Olop Arpipi, a big name among Bali's Yoga community, teaches Iyengar yoga in the back of his house in Seminyak.

Iyengar Yoga is a form of yoga that places emphasis on perfecting postures (asana).

Olop studied yoga in Europe and the Iyengar Institute in India.

Manik Organik

Manik Organik in Sanur provides organic food as well as yoga classes.

It feels more like a community center than a commercial yoga studio with the different activities, such as workshops and musical performances, which take place there.

Motion fitness

Although Motion Fitness is more of a fitness center rather than a yoga studio, their workout program includes a combination of yoga, Tai Chi (Chinese martial art), and Pilates.

Its retreat program involves a yoga session at the beach.

The Art of Body

The yoga class at The Art of Body offers what is dubbed Powerflow Yoga, a form of Vinyasa yoga that provides the best cardiovascular workout.

This kind of yoga does not follow a strict series of postures, but it will leave the practitioners drenched in sweat without having to adjust to the temperature like in Bikram Yoga.

Desa seni

Desa Seni is another community center that provides daily yoga classes, ranging from Anusara Yoga to Ashtanga Yoga.

It organizes many yoga-related events, such as the Kundalini Yoga teacher training, yoga retreats and “Celebration of Life” festival of yoga, music, dance and art in March 2013.
