With many bars between Kuta and Seminyak serving alcoholic beverages until midnight, there is a chance that you may be caught in a situation of having had one too many drinks when most people are already sound asleep. When the alcohol starts to take its toll, people often get the “drunk munchies” – cravings for late-night snacks. This is actually a good thing because the first thing that you can do to prevent a horrible hangover in the morning is to fill your stomach with a nice meal. The problem is, finding a place that is serving up tasty food, especially in the wee hours of the morning.

Baku Dapa – Oxtail soup

If you have belted a couple of drinks down, it is only a matter of time before the alcohol is absorbed it into your system. One way to slow this process down is by coating your guts with greasy food. The oxtail soup served at Baku Dapa is perfect for saving your morning. Located beside Santa Fe Bar & Grill, which plays loud music all night long in Dhyana Pura, Seminyak, Baku Dapa is a 24-hour restaurant where you can get the “first-aid” you need. For Rp 55,000 (US$6), you can get a generous portion of oxtail soup that is sure to be one of the greasiest foods that you will ever taste.

The nauseous feeling that comes along with being a bit tipsy can sometimes keep you from having a heavy meal even though you are feeling hungry. If you feel that Baku Dapa’s oxtail soup is a bit too much for your stomach to handle, then go to Jef’s Burger, located nearby. Burgers and sandwiches will certainly be easier for you to eat and digest. The vegetarian sandwich contains the nutrition necessary for your body to recover from the ill effects of a heavy night of drinking. It has egg, a good source of cysteine –a well-known substance to reduce the toxic effects of alcohol. Jef’s Burger is open 24 hours and the vegetarian sandwich is available for Rp 40,000.

Goody’s Cafe & Cucina – Aussie, Aussie, Aussie

The Double Six Beach area is home to several nightclubs, such as La Vida Loca. If you ever find yourself “overserved” in this area then Goody’s Cafe & Cucina is there for your dose of hangover prevention. The pizza and pasta they serve will go down as easy as the drinks you had; and the “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie” pizza is a perfect choice. This pizza has all the right ingredients, including eggs for the cysteine and bacon for the grease. If you look closely at the menu, they even list bacon twice as an ingredient – that should be an indication of how great this pizza is.

Being the center of nightlife in Bali, drunk men are a common sight if you happen to be in Kuta after midnight. There may be several food stalls in the middle of the most happening area, but if you prefer to have a meal at a quiet place, you should head north to Mama’s German Restaurant. The only noise that might bother you here is the sound of a German football match on television. Once you get a nice seat, order yourself a “Leberkase”, also known as a Bavarian style meat loaf. You can choose from side dishes ranging from bread dumplings to potato wedges. You can also choose your vegetables; if you are used to European cuisine then we’d suggest the home-made sauerkraut to go with your meat loaf. Otherwise, we’d suggest you to pick other vegetables. For Rp 71,500 (US$7.50) you get a big slice of meat loaf with poached eggs and your choice of sides.
